William Timmons, the Washington lobbyist who John McCain has named to head his presidential transition team, aided an influence effort on behalf of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to ease international sanctions against his regime.
The two lobbyists who Timmons worked closely with over a five year period on the lobbying campaign later either pleaded guilty to or were convicted of federal criminal charges that they had acted as unregistered agents of Saddam Hussein’s government.

Well… I didn’t know that about McCain transitions guy… but I am pretty durn conservative (I guess that reads, nowadays, as “right-wing nut”) and I can say that McCain is not considered very conservative at all. He got elected as the official candidate due, in large part, to having primaries open to Democrats and Indepenpents, and most Republicans have since rallied around him because he’s not a Democrat (as opposed to any positive qualities he may possess).
I really get the impression that he is now being played up so as to convince the conservatives to vote for him and help defeat Obama. I can’t stand him and never have, anyway, and am pretty pissed by those who criticized hm now singing his praises. The story you linked is just awful.
PS – Please excuse my typos, by the way… I have a baby flailing around my nipple and two little ones protesting their bedtime!
