Why your free blog host matters
6 04 2006Chris’s thoughts - I can’t say it better.
I can only add this: Support is linear. You are supporting HSB every time you post, because those posts are picked up by various search engines. People outside of HSB come there, see the banner for TOS, subscribe. Their magazine comes in the mail. They read about the Pearls. They buy the Pearl’s books. They start beating their kids. What the Pearl’s teach is not discipline. It’s not biblical. And if one child is injured, that’s too many. While Sean Paddock was strangled in bed covers, he had been beaten as per the Pearls. Please remember that Sean Paddock’s siblings were beaten too, using the Pearl’s methods. Those children were covered with bruises. One still walks with a limp.
The owner of TOS and HSB, Gena Suarez, has been unwavering in her support of the Pearls. There is simply no way to support the kind of abusive parenting the Pearl’s teach.
Stop the madness.

V. tired…but just wanted to say, “well said” Doc.
“While Sean Paddock was strangled in bed covers, he had been beaten as per the Pearls.”
While I have not read the Pearls advocate restraining children with blankets, it is from the same must-control-at-all-costs playbook.
As one Pearl defender wrote on an HSB Pearl support post, as she tried to positively portray (we all must have misunderstood, read it in context) the story of ritual daily switching to teach a six year old about lying, “She explained in that article that she had tried EVERYTHING and that she was very concerned about her child’s growing habit. She also explained that she felt GOD gave her that idea, and that it was NOT an idea to try on any lying child, but was trying to show how God WILL give us creative ideas (not all of which involve spanking–lol). Interestingly enough (haha–not!), it worked.”
So, Lynn Paddock was following both the letter and the spirit of the Pearls’ teachings. “Creatively” keeping control by restraining her little boy. And, like the above poster points out, creativity sometimes “works.” Lynn Paddock doesn’t have a disobedient son anymore.
Btw, I do believe in creativity in parenting and relying upon the Lord in daily parenting situations (roll your eyes all you want)–but one cannot use that to justify actions that harm children and go against the express teachings of the Bible.
