Zero Sum Game
6 10 2005we’ve not been mothered very well
seems all we know of nurture
is keeping our own narcissistic desires
alone and apart
and if we’d ever made it to the door;
with choices to make
staggering forward a half step
faltering and stepping back
we’d have seen past
and inside
to that blue flame
almost touching something
we would build with our own hands
but out of a chasm of doubt
a black stain has spread
and engulfed all that we never knew
damned be I before I’ll come break down the wall
because I know you have more to give
than the bitterness of a black hole
now I draw cool water to my face
and take a breath;
stop;
think before another step taken
is the one I will most regret
what to do now
standing at the end of something that never had a beginning
what action will put it all to rights
what word will soothe what isn’t understood
better to stand in perfect stillness
armed with the memory of hope like seasons,
a time and place for everything
and either fear or circumstance
keeping us in the shallow end of life

Better to stand in perfect stillness… so true!
Hi Butch, just wondering if you were still planning a post about the traditions of Christmas. I’m very interested in your thoughts on this subject. Hope you are feeling well.
