Ruling seen as a threat to many home-schooling families
Parents who lack teaching credentials cannot educate their children at home, according to a state appellate court ruling that is sending waves of fear through California’s home schooling families.
Actually, the ruling doesn’t say anything close to this. What it says is that the Long family, investigated and found guilty of child abuse 7 times over a 25 year period, must enroll their own children in a traditional school setting, which can include a traditional private school. Private schools in California do not require teacher certification - so this statement makes so little sense to me that I actually laughed out loud. Parents who use a cover school that poses as a private school need to file their own affidavit stating that they are declaring their home a private school. Cover schools, like Sunland Christian, who supposedly administered the Long children’s education, are violating the clear rules of California education code, that states that children who attend a private school actually spend their days there. Children registered with an umbrella school are not attending that school daily, and clearly circumventing the law. How hard is that to understand?
According to California educational statistics, there are nearly one million children attending traditional private schools - the kind you attend daily - and where is the outcry of alert on their part? If such a ruling existed, that certification is required, this would be a way bigger news story. It isn’t. No laws have been changed. No homeschooler outside the Long family has been remanded to court, or to school, or been investigated. Homeschooling is still available, just follow the rules.
Stop being stupid. Stop relying on poor news reports. Use your brains. Employ logic.
Oh, and stop beating your kids.

World Net Daily is NOT news. Not a news source, not anything but propaganda. They keep quoting this site as “credible” but it employs Chuck Norris for pete’s sake.
I can’t understand why they actually believe that tripe of a site.
There is a new post now: “Are you worried about next year (in light of the news”. I feel like saying “Just don’t move here, I’ll kick your ass out”.

Thanks for reporting a more full picture of this. I agree it’s hard to find anything less than hype, whether in Christian evangelical or big city news, or on blogs that promote taking up torches and pitchforks against homeschoolers (just read one). I knew I needed to find some balance before blogging about this myself.
