Some excellent points that need to be highlighted (SUBWAYGATE)

From Krista:

Not everyone has to be included in everything. This is one of the things that bothered me the most about when Christian was in PS. If you have a birthday party you have to invite everyone. You can’t cheer for your kids team at field day because the other team might not have people cheering for them and will feel bad. You can’t send in home baked snacks because the other moms might not have the time to bake something and we can’t have little Johnny or Suzy feeling badly that their mommy had to buy a snack.

Yeah, isn’t it HOMESCHOOLERS who complain endlessly about how public school disintegrates the actual meaning of self esteem by making every child a constant winner? (whiner) That’s not real life. Real life isn’t fair. As homeschoolers, we’re supposed to setting the example that our children live in the real world.

And as Andrea comments in a post below:

(Doc)“To say that a proposed winner could give it to their group or “church” would still discriminate against the multitudes of homeschoolers who do not require the oversight and accountability of an organized group.”

And it’s greedy. Seriously has no one pointed this out yet? homeschoolers and their local groups do not *need* $5K worth of anything.

This whole thing makes me want to bang my head repeatedly against my desk.

Greedy. Totally.

[sarcasm]No! It’s not greed! It’s blatant discrimination! Why don’t you see, if they don’t allow us this time, what’s to stop the Guv’ment from getting involved and hurting us all over?! How can you not see the discrimination! We are being Oppressed![/sarcasm]

Yeah, snort. I’m having fun with this one too. :)

I’m a Christian homeschooler (not a fundamentalist though) and I’m really scratching my head over this one. Two lists I belong to were both yammering about this…I wrote to one saying I didn’t see what a huge deal it was, and that Subway is a business, and as a business, it has the right to make its own rules for contests. I received a reply attempting to explain why this IS discrimination, and that Subway is saying homeschooled students are not REAL students and we don’t have REAL schools. They did not say any such thing IMO. And they’re not discriminating…they will sell their food to anyone.

Also…homeschoolers were pointing out the spelling errors in Subway’s ad about the contest…but when I visited a web site where hsers had signed a petition against Subway, I saw many spelling and grammar mistakes in the comments. Some real gems. Now Scholastic has issued an apology, but even that wasn’t enough for the homeschoolers…were they expecting the creators of the contest to bow down to them and beg, while wailing and admitting that homeschooled children are far above everyone else? :::rolling eyes::::

Entitlement, that’s the word I was looking for. Greedy works too.
